Career path after graduation
The MICE industry encompasses not only national projects like the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the Incheon Asian Games, but also exhibitions, conventions, and event industries, including large-scale international conferences, exhibitions, and fairs. It is also closely linked to various industries, including tourism, hotels, leisure, travel, dining, performances, shopping, recreation, publishing, printing, transportation, communications, and transportation. Job duties range from public relations, marketing, event planning and execution, to coordinating and controlling work with various related companies. Graduates can pursue diverse careers, offering a wide range of opportunities for employment.
The domestic convention market, which has grown rapidly since the opening of the ASEM in 2000, is attracting attention as a promising next-generation market. However, due to a significant shortage of skilled workers, employment potential is significant.

Professional Convention Organizers (PCOs) and Professional Exhibition Organizers (PEOs)
These companies handle all or part of the hosting of international conferences, exhibitions, and trade shows, as delegated by event organizers. They plan and promote the event program, attract participants, set up conference/exhibition venues, and plan and manage protocol, registration, accommodations, social events, and tour itineraries.
Exhibition and Convention Center
Exhibition and convention center is specialized facilities that host events of various sizes and types, including international conferences, exhibitions, and other events. As shown in the table below, most major cities across the country, including COEX, have one. Event organizers and planners utilize these centers to achieve their goals. Exhibition and convention centers handle marketing for events, including international conferences, rental management of exhibition halls and conference rooms, and on-site support for various events. They also sometimes manage exhibition planning organizations (PEOs) and convention planning companies (PCOs), which plan and operate exhibitions and international conferences, respectively.

Korea, Beyond Meetings
Hotels (Convention and Banquet Coordinators)
Small- to medium-sized conventions, such as corporate product launches or employee meetings, are often held at hotels. Furthermore, for international events, choosing a hotel as a convention venue allows for the integration of accommodations, social events, and sightseeing, making it efficient. To attract large groups, conventions, and banquets, hotels hire staff with expertise in convention operations to handle marketing, public relations, and event coordination for PCOs and companies. This workforce is on the rise.
Marketing, Public Relations, and Event Planning Departments of General Companies, PR Agencies, and Media Firms
With the rise of product marketing, exhibitions, and corporate PR events not only in hotels but also in general companies, more and more companies are establishing dedicated departments to manage these events. These individuals collaborate with PCOs and PEOs to host more effective corporate events. They can also find employment in PR and event management positions at PR agencies, broadcasting stations, and other media outlets.
Event Specialists, Performance Distribution Companies
With the increasing number of corporate promotional events, local government events and festivals, school and association events, and even individual events like weddings and celebratory parties, the number of event companies planning and hosting these events is increasing. Employment opportunities are available in the public relations, marketing, and planning departments of performance distribution companies.
Incentive Tourism Planning
Incentive tourism refers to travel incentives offered by companies to improve business performance or other performance, or as rewards or special bonuses for employees who achieve their goals. Recently, the government has been accelerating its marketing efforts to attract incentive tourists. These efforts include holding incentive briefings for major overseas buyers at each branch and participating in tourism and industry fairs for companies, promoting MICE marketing. Companies from neighboring countries, including China, are increasingly choosing Korea as an incentive destination. For example, in June 2014, an Amway incentive tour group of approximately 18,000 people from China and Taiwan visited Korea, generating hundreds of billions of won in tourism revenue. Incentive tours are complex to plan and arrange, and thus rely heavily on professional travel suppliers.
MICE Facilities and Venues Operators
Employment opportunities await you at facilities and venues other than convention centers where events are held, such as hotels, casinos, cruise ships, museums, art galleries, multi-cultural spaces, and theme parks.
Other MICE Service Providers
Careers are available in the general tourism industry and industries closely related to MICE, such as travel agencies, airlines, international business centers, interpretation and translation service agencies, exhibition and convention equipment manufacturers, signage/promotional materials manufacturers, security/protocol personnel suppliers, and exhibit transportation/customs clearance companies. Furthermore, completing teaching courses can lead to employment as tourism teachers at vocational high schools.
