What is a tour conductor ?

  • A tour conductor is a person who guides Korean nationals on their overseas trips. They provide various travel conveniences, such as guiding individuals or groups traveling abroad on transportation, accommodations, tourist facilities, and convenience facilities, and explain tourist destinations and products or guide them on their trips.
  • A tour conductor accompanies group tours planned and hosted by travel agencies, helping tourists have a pleasant and rewarding trip, and performs all related tasks.

Legal basis

  • Article 13 of the Tourism Promotion Act: When a travel agent conducts an overseas trip for a domestic citizen, in order to ensure the safety and convenience of the traveler, he/she must appoint a person to guide the trip (tour conductor) who meets the qualifications prescribed by the Ordinance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Qualifications (must meet one of the following requirements)

  • Qualified Tourist Guide
  • Completion of Basic Training : Those who have worked for a travel agency for at least six months and have overseas travel experience and have completed basic training prescribed by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism
  • Completion of Training : Those who have completed training required to lead overseas tours at an educational institution designated by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism
    ※ Qualified individuals can apply for and receive an tour conductor license through the Tour conductor human resource Management System Website of Korea Association of Travel Agents.

Curriculum for qualification acquisition

  • Job training Education
    - Eligibility : Those who have worked for a travel agency for at least six months and have overseas experience.
    - Training Hours : At least 15 hours.
    - Training Contents
      · Required Training : Choose from travel agency practices, tourism-related laws, overseas tour guide practices,
    tourism service practices, world tourism culture, and overseas travel safety management.   · Elective Training : Choose your preferred training institution (however, the curriculum must be related to the overseas tour guide training program).
      · Foreign Language Training : Practical English, Practical Japanese, Practical Chinese, etc.
  • Development Training
    - Eligibility: TGraduates or expected graduates of a tourism-related department from a junior college or higher, or graduates of a tourism high school.
    - Training Hours: 80 hours or more.
    - Training Contents
      · Required Training: Choose from travel agency practices, tourism-related laws, overseas tour guide practices, tourism service practices, world tourism culture, and overseas travel safety management.
      · Elective Training: Choose your training institution (however, the curriculum must be related to the overseas tour guide training program).
      · Foreign Language Training: Practical English, Practical Japanese, Practical Chinese, etc.
